A Silver ring with a polished surface. The structure is a flow of cells , like a chain frozen into the circular shape of the ring. Nestled into this cell form is a small colony of spore like growths capped in four oval Jade gems and one round point of red garnet. Asymmetrical, the gem colony provide a top to bottom axis.
Flow emerges as a theme of this piece. The main Flow of the cell structure is intermingled with the flow of the colony cells. An eddy in the main current. An historical name for the Artists location is ‘Te Wai Pounamu”, the rivers of jade. This references the jade deposits which tumble down the rivers from the Alps. Flow.
The ring has a soft gentle feel, from the merging of the shapes to the polish of the surface. However the sharp drop of red disrupts the green flow. It joins into the stream as if from elsewhere. A particle of change? The spill from a open wound? A gentle call to action?
