Ochre and Moss

Ochre and Moss

My latest art project is a bit of a amateur video piece. Editing is not my best skill... I tried to use some modern AI tools but found myself in a wall of mirrors. Not the totally wrong place since the current module in my art course is surrealism. However as I stripped details out of the piece , I ended up with my raw footage in a simple layout. I will edit this further as it is a snippet of my current thinking of art works going forward. I returned to my local environment and materials are local too.  It is not a finished object but is here for you to view if interested. Below is a short subject content text on the piece.

For my mother, Hildegard.

Video presentation.1min. Colour, hand held camera. Low resolution. Sound track of cicada and wind throughout the short piece.

A strong current of water falls into a pool of bubbles. A hand emerges over shimmering water,  slowly unfolding to reveal an ochre stained palm. The palm subsides into the flow, the still water, reflecting light floods the hand. A wall of moss. The hand, palm now gently closed rests, moss gathers on the surface as  reflections flood the scene.

Water, elemental, is the backdrop to this short drama. The open palm, a symbol of living life. Ochre, crushed rock, earth paint, the maker's mark. The processes of expression. The closed resting palm. Symbol of a life ended. Energy depletes, transfers to a new life.  Water now still reflects the light.

Every action requires energy. The currency of living life, ATP, is required to extend an open hand. Devoid of currency the palm closes. The emergence dissipates.
