Red Mānuka Silver Flower Necklace

Red Mānuka Silver Flower Necklace is a small sterling silver pendant based on the flower of the  Mānuka tree which grow in the surrounding hillsides. (Leptospermum scoparium). The flower measures 2cm by 2cm, with five smooth silver petals arranged in a radial pattern. At the centre is a cast form of the Mānuka seedpod, set with a round red garnet to suggest the ochre red found in the local streams. The pendant hangs from a fine sterling silver chain with a parrot clasp. It is designed to sit at mid-chest level when worn.

The necklace may be viewed as a study in botanical form, referencing the structure of the Mānuka flower and seedpod. Alternatively, it could be interpreted as a way to carry a physical reminder of native flora in a wearable format. With the ochre reference it suggests the windswept Mānuka Parapara hillsides
