Harakeke

 Harakeke (flax)

Harakeke is one of the most abundant plants of the N.Z landscape. From the sand dunes of the coast to deep inside the national parks, Harakeke will be there. It flourishes where little else will grow and creates one of the most distinctive features of the local landscape. When the tall flower spikes emerge the Tui and Korimako emerge from the mountains to feed on the nectar.Every summer the parade of singing birds outside my workshop window is just marvelous.

This design is one of my early sculptural forms. It is suggestive of the flower with its emerging stamen. Vibrant with a splash of gold vermiel on the surface, to the muted hint of red on the copper stamen.

I use solid Sterling Silver in my designs. No silver or gold plating over bronze. Our products are Silver through and through.
