Archaea
Ten pieces, 2022–2026
Form Gallery, Christchurch. 1st August 2026.
10 pieces numbered. Cast silver lattice structural elements. #1 and 2, necklaces, 3 to 10, rings. All cast silver, #1 oxidised dark surface finish, the rest a mix of hard reflective polish highlighting the cell outlines against dark oxidised interiors. Colour evident in gems of orange carnelian in #4, red garnet in #6 and yellow lab diamond in #10. Absence of symmetry consistent through the pieces, organic physicality, presenting a new view at every angle.
Results from an experimental process in structural growth. Input variation. Following the process, snapshots are captured, pursued. #3 the cell explodes into volume, #7 the process settles, finding pathways, #9 cells multiply, move, fuse, #10 blooms.
The mathematical petri dish that contained the system is deleted. What remains, a cloud of points growing and interacting because they can.
